SURPRISE! I have literally been jumping up and down with excitement to share my new album with you, and today I can FINALLY tell you all about it!! 🥳 I’ve been working on this album for the last couple of years, and to me it feels like it represents an explosion of joy, energy and creativity. It feels like it pulls together all of my experiences from the last couple of years; the highs, the lows, and the sheer intensity of emotion that only music can bring. It’s a musical spreading of wings, bringing together all of my different musical worlds with classical organ pieces alongside film scores, minimalism, new commissions and a couple of rather fun covers in there too…! I’ve poured all of myself into this album, and I cannot wait for Firedove to be yours. The whole thing will be coming out on the 30th May!! 🕊️ 🔥WOOHOOOOOOOOO!!

Day 4 touring Canada with the Chapel Choir of Pembroke College, Cambridge - my last tour as their director ❤️ wanted to share this little clip from one of our concerts in Montreal - Jonathan Dove’s ‘Seek him that maketh the seven stars’ - this has been one of my favourite pieces of choral music for such a long time, and this crescendo is the best goosebump creator! I love the fact that one of the cathedral bells happened to ring at the perfect time! Most of the bells are controlled by me at the organ, but you can hear one bell strike that’s different, and that’s the cathedral. And yes, that’s me singing - singing and playing simultaneously is ok once you practise it, but for this one I had to also turn my head so I could sing into the acoustic which made it a bit more challenging to still play!! Heading home after the most mind-blowing week in Germany - concerts in Cologne and Hamburg, with possibly the craziest day of my life in Cologne. A couple more photos included here, including beautiful shots by @simon.e.ph - plus some bonus pictures from after the concert - the policemen gave me an honorary police badge, and then the ambulance crew and Domschweizer followed suit and gave me gifts too 🥹🥹 I’m gradually working through all the messages from the concert, and am so struck by how kind everyone was to each other - a situation that could have so easily been incredibly stressful and full of anger and impatience was instead calm and positive and beautiful. Thank you for being glorious human beings ❤️

I have no words to describe last night. I have honestly never experienced anything like it. 13,000 people showed up to Cologne Cathedral for my concert. 13,000!!!!!! The police ended up being called and I’m so grateful to them for their help keeping everything under control. We expected it would be busy, but never in a million years did we think it would be THAT busy. I really didn’t want anyone to be turned away so 45 minutes before the start I made the decision to do 2 concerts back to back - 4000 in each - and I genuinely thought we had got everyone in but apparently 5000 were still waiting outside and didn’t make it in. If you were one of these people: I am SO sorry. I didn’t find out until about 30 mins after the end of the second concert and I have been feeling bad ever since. Please also be kind to the cathedral team - they did an incredible job responding to the situation as quickly as they could - they had already organised extra staff, but planning for an audience of about 4000, not 13,000!! Lesson learned: I will always make sure there is a ticketing system in place in the future….!! If you travelled to be there, then from the bottom of my heart: THANK YOU!!! This is one of my favourite bits to play from my new Pirates of the Caribbean Suite - One Day, the big love theme from the 3rd film. It’s always really hard to get clarity in the last section when there are 3 simultaneous melodies and a separate bass line plus inner harmony - but because there are two separate organs to play with in Cologne Cathedral it’s possible to spatially separate those melodies!! It means this is one of the first times I’ve heard this with the clarity I always aim for, and yes, it did make me cry 🥹🥹 also: this was my 5th trip downstairs for this piece to try and get the perfect balance, tweaking individual registrations each time. It took 17 and a half hours to find the perfect registrations for this 70 minute programme - and then another 4 hours to bed those registration changes in.
