Unpopular opinion-- vacations are best in locations without WiFi.

Another successful summer vacation in the books! This is our 4th year now going to Lake McConaughy near Ogallala, NE. Never heard of it? Exactly.

I don't know how many times we've gone to Disney, and yes, we had fun, but it also felt like a chore and highway robbery at the same time.

But not at Lake Mac. There are no souvenir stands with $40 bubble wands. No lines. No overpriced food. Just 4 families, 2 boats, 2 jet skis, 17 kids, a few flies... and endless sandy beaches and memories.

To pull off this kind of redneck vacation, you need the right people. I can't say enough about this group of friends. We set up our own miniture beach village every single day to spend the whole day on the lakes. It's a ton of work, but everyone chips in and moves fast and gets it all done. No drama. No strict schedules. We all seem to just move in unison like a flock of sunburnt ducks. I'll fill the boat with gas; you respray all the kids with sunscreen.

Life these days seems to move pretty fast—
but it all slows down at the lake.
