It’s my birthday!! 🥰 I appreciate every birthday I get with BOTH of my dogs. Their life is so limited and I will always cherish the time I have with them. 🥺 Thank you everyone for getting us to 100k! Wow. What a birthday present. 🥹🎉 And thank you @allieblaylockphotography for taking one of my favorite photos with Echo. 🥰 #embraceeveryday

Valentines Day is a day I will not forget. It’s hard to put into words how I feel on this day. I’m jealous of the February 13th 2019 version of myself who didn’t know the weight of what would quite literally crash down on her the next day. These last 4 years have been a journey. I was already dealt the hand of genetic chronic conditions and diagnoses but on this day, I felt like I completely lost my sense of self. A traumatic brain injury that eventually led to onset of tonic-clonic seizures, anti-NMDA receptor encephalitis, and amnestic syndrome, changed the course of my life in so many ways but it also brought me to you all. If I wouldn’t have searched so hard to find an outlet and a group of friends to share and relate my hardest moments to 4 years ago, I’m not sure I would be here. I have been slowly recovering from the parts that I can and better managing the conditions and symptoms that will stay with me. This day is very weird for me but I think that it’s an event that led me to where I am and I am grateful. ❤️ #embraceeveryday

Feeling like you can’t breathe is actually scarier than being in a coma for me. My husband didn’t film the parts when it got really really bad because I was laying on the ground unable to see from not breathing enough. I know this looks so extra, but this was an hour long event in which the beginning and end were the only things being filmed. Pneumothorax is extremely common and easily happens for those with VEDS. The tissue in your body is also extremely fragile. I advocate for myself out loud now because if I become unconscious, at least someone may have an idea of where to look and a possibility as to why. I couldn’t talk for a while though! I started leaving the gym with a friend when I started having an asthma attack. Luckily I keep a spare rescue inhaler with (along with seizure meds). One thing I didn’t have with me today.. an EpiPen. I forget about it because I don’t go into anaphylaxis often. I slowly realized that my inhaler wasn’t working and called Ruben. My friend told him what was happening and I stayed on the phone with him. My throat and chest felt like it was getting tighter. I could feel my nostrils and cheeks swelling. He greeted me with my EpiPen at the door and helped me inject it. I couldn’t think straight enough to remember the safety tab. I cut this video down a lot. It took a while for me to find baseline. Please BRING YOUR EPIPENS WITH YOU and google how to use one for a friend/family member/stranger. You never know.

I’m so grateful to have a literal foundation of support for my rare genetic condition Vascular Ehlers Danlos Syndrome. I’ve gone through a lot my entire life in private and also very publicly. To be where I am today with a team of doctors who understand the complexity of my case and will advocate for me with a simple phone call is HUGE. It quite literally extends the longevity of my life. VEDS is not the only condition I struggle with but it is the biggest cause to a lot of conditions I am managing outside of Epilepsy. Thank you @themarfanfoundation for including the VEDS community in your conference, workshops, meetings with doctors, food gatherings, and activities. Thank you for creating community in hard times with people who share the same struggles. ❤️

Remembering the history today so that we can do better tomorrow.. Since it’s July 4th, I have been thinking about the native code talkers who were hired by the US military a little bit today. Did you know they played a crucial role in transmitting vital military information on the battlefield in both World War I and II? Many of these natives are ancestors of Mexican people as the land they were hired from was once Mexico. It’s much of the reason that the US could report troop movements, enemy positions, and communicate other vital information without anyone else knowing. They viewed military service as an extension of their traditional roles as warriors and protectors of their people. Native code talkers saw the US and Natives as one and yet I think we have forgotten the unity they saw.

It’s weird watching footage of things you don’t fully remember but I thought it might be interesting for others to see. I had a staph infection that triggered status epilepticus

TODAY. There was green stuff all over the car. No rain. The air smelled like metallic sewage. Our eyes have been watering, we are coughing. I have my inhaler but what is this? Why is there so much pollution in the air? 😳

I was not expecting to post this. I have been doing so good with seizures. I hate feeling so disappointed in myself thinking maybe there’s something I could have done differently.. maybe I could have taken my epilepsy medication earlier.. maybe I played with the kids too much.. maybe I tried to eat something I shouldn’t have.. maybe I should have stayed out of the heat more..

All the thoughts that play back in my head. At the end of the day, I know it’s no one’s fault. I will just start over and hope for better days because that’s all that can be done.

Ruben turns off the Tv as soon as he realizes I’m not okay. I’m thankful for him and Echo who was lying on me the entire time. There’s a second part to this video.. Ruben sprays emergency medication in my nose after a seizure

When I forget to take seizure medicine, sometimes I become a little spacey and even more forgetful. I’m not sure how common this is for Epileptics but it’s very common for me. My family often notices me not doing anything or aimlessly walking/standing while trying to figure out what I’m ‘supposed to do next’. I cut out a lot of pauses while setting up medication trying to figure out the next step even though I’ve my primed Keppra a million times.

Echo has started pressing the button when my medication is late. I think this is because he has associated the scent he should be looking for before a medical episode with the ‘late medication alarm’ we have clipped to his collar.

My family can talk to me and watch through our buttons and cameras that we bring with us everywhere.

IPupPee has been kind enough to give my audience a discount code if you are interested in your own button as well. Use code EMBRACE for a discount.

I have a few videos of us using our button. As Echo evolves with it, we are constantly finding new ways to use it

After recently increasing seizure medication doses and getting my blood patches, I have been seizure free. Hoping that this pattern continues. ☺️
