Wow, already?! As soon as @sir_jeph12 hired me at Wag! (where I met @dajaznae and @limitedtickets) I was OUT! The rest was history.

Just weeks out of college, I packed all I could fit into my little Volkswagen EOS, hit the road with @taliee, and never looked back. I’ve lived SO MANY lives since then.

If you’d have asked me why I moved out here back in 2017, I’d have told you “I don’t know, I just always wanted to live here.” And while that’s true, I did always dream of living in LA as a kid, I now know why LA called to me. It’s a place where people go to escape the boxes they don’t want to fit into, where there are less rules on building the life that fits you.

Thank you to everyone who’s been here with me, here for me, or even against me (I learned the most from y’all) in any capacity at any phase. Cheers to 8 years! 🥂 #LAversary

last night was… indescribable.

so grateful my cousin @priceless112 introduced me to my new cousin @a.ketina, and even more grateful “new cousin” introduced us all to her beautifully nuanced, heart-wrenchingly relatable, literal “play cousins” Sade and Mina.

yesterday, I was blessed to attend the opening night of Furlough’s Paradise at @geffenplayhouse. It’s a perfectly executed love letter to all of the Black Excellence that was created from collective Black Suffering. that’s all I will say. please go see it y’all!

aside from all the beauty on stage, I got to see the beautiful faces of so many of my faves. what a feeling it is to laugh and cry in unison, only to drink and rejoice together immediately after. what is more illustrative of the Black Experience than that?

10/10 play. 10/10 night. thank you A.K, @gers_kacye, and @dewandawise. 💐

s/o to slide 16 and @wanderfulamirah, who I am so proud of! my girl went on a trip to Southeast Asia a few years ago and decided to just never come back. 😂 Now she’s the proud owner of @saycheesedanang. 👏🏽

I’ve been planning to visit her for years, but we finally made it! Miss her already (and that beautiful Blood Moon you can see in our beach pic)!

Japan was everything I needed it to be. Over a decade ago, I was here as a wide-eyed sophomore in college, just trying to figure it all out. That boy wouldn’t believe where I am now—living in Los Angeles, in love, and somehow making it 3 years in a committed relationship (approximately 9 in gay years).

I still don’t have all the answers, but I have learned that most of what I used to worry about doesn’t matter at all. These days, I’m less concerned with how life looks and more focused on how it feels (s/o @msflechejones)

So cheers to 29 years! 🥂(and to the end of the winter portion of my trip! 🙌🏽) Japan was good to me, but I’m ready for some sun. Next stop, Thailand! 🇹🇭

A few weeks ago, while discussing relationships, a friend asked how Kevin “saves my day”. I struggled a bit to find an answer that felt right, and ended with “I don’t really need my day saved much, I’m more of a day saver”. But after some thought, I realized I couldn’t think of an adequate answer because Kevin doesn’t shine in the day. As I said in my response, that’s where I thrive. I love the visibility, all the activity, and basking in the light.

But Kevin is my night.

He keeps me warm in the absence of the sun. He reminds me just how soon it will be until she rises again, when anxiety helps me forget. He holds up the moon with all his might, higher than I ever remember it before—so that I can see all that I was once too afraid to, hidden within the darkness.

Happy birthday to my valiant night, who never needed shining armor to save me.
