Flying Lotus lands at MIRA 2025 with a live show that condenses two decades of sonic and visual exploration. Since reshaping the LA beat scene with Los Angeles, Steven Ellison has constantly expanded his universe: from Cosmogramma to You’re Dead!, from Brainfeeder to experimental cinema, from jazz to hip hop, from animation to ambient.

This November, he’ll present new compositions such as Garmonbozia, featured on his latest EP Spirit Box (2025): hypnotic, layered pieces that bridge rhythm and dream states. Flying Lotus returns to the stage with the multidimensional vision that has always defined him.

Photographing COSMIC MUSIC: The Celestial Songs of Alice Coltrane on May 17, 2025 at Carnegie Hall was an incredible honor. Documenting two rehearsals beforehand gave me a rare glimpse into the care, spirit, and joy that fueled this powerful family gathering.
Curated by Ravi Coltrane and the Coltrane family, the evening featured orchestral arrangements of Alice’s transcendent compositions. Her legacy was brought to life in every note—from Ravi’s soulful saxophone to the cosmic djset by her grandnephew Flying Lotus on turntables. Her daughter Michelle Coltrane led the Sai Anantam Devotional Ensemble—Alice’s own chorus, including original members—with grace and power, alongside a full orchestra conducted by Brandon Waddles.
Brandee Younger performed on Alice’s recently restored harp, adding a luminous thread to the night’s soundscape. The band featured Jeff “Tain” Watts on drums and David Virelles on piano, grounding the celestial with deep rhythm and sensitivity.
It was more than a concert—it was a spiritual offering, a celebration of lineage, and a reminder of Alice’s boundless artistic vision. I’m grateful to have witnessed the energy and reverence poured into every moment.

Curated by Ravi Coltrane and the family of Alice Coltrane Turiyasangitananda, the performance features world premieres of orchestral arrangements of Alice’s compositions. Happy 15TH birthday Cosmogramma -

This shoot rewired my brain. I traveled deep into a remote area outside of L.A., which in the 70s was home to much cult activity, to the compound of artist Leigh J. McCloskey. Leigh had a series of art works “Codex Tor” which were a kind of map of the cosmic realm.. this was the basis of the Cosmogramma album art ..He had painted the entirety of the library in his home with that, in normal light looked like a standard library, but in UV became a multi dimensional lattice work of Glyphs.

Leigh was kind enough to hand paint a set of blank masks we had brought with us and we spent the day discussing the nature of reality as capturing some photos on our journey with my favorite Mamiya 7 film camera.. Words don’t do it justice of course, but that is what the music is for. Ty @warprecords @flyinglotus @leighjmccloskey 🤍

COSMIC MUSIC, a historic evening of music honoring the breadth of the creative and spiritual life of Alice Coltrane Turiyasangitananda will include world premiere orchestral arrangements of Alice Coltrane compositions, capping a landmark year of celebrating the spiritual leader, musician, and composer’s enduring legacy.

The title of the concert pays homage to Alice’s 1968 “Cosmic Music” performance at Carnegie Hall, one of seven times Alice performed at the legendary venue in her lifetime.

A portion of proceeds will benefit The John & Alice Coltrane Home.
