As concerns over social media addiction grow, more adults are trading in their smartphones for simpler “dumbphones” to cut down on digital distractions.

These low-tech devices offer only the essentials: calls, texts, alarms, and sometimes a basic maps app, making it easier to stay focused on real life.

Long-term users say switching to a dumbphone can reduce screen time from around nine hours a day to as little as twenty minutes.

Douglas “Doug” Tompkins, co-founder of The North Face (1966) and Esprit, went on in the 1990s to become one of the world’s most impactful private conservationists.

Together with his wife, former Patagonia CEO Kris McDivitt Tompkins, they purchased approximately 2.2 million acres of wilderness across Chile and Argentina, including areas like Pumalín Park and Corcovado National Park, and donated them to their respective governments to establish or expand national parks.

Their visionary philanthropy has protected vast swathes of temperate rainforests, fjords, wetlands, and Andean peaks, setting a new standard for large-scale land conservation.

Tammy Waddell, a dedicated teacher from Forsyth County, Georgia, who taught for 30 years, made a heartfelt request before her passing in June 2018. Instead of flowers at her funeral, she asked attendees to bring backpacks filled with school supplies to support students in need.

Her funeral was attended by numerous educators, many of whom served as honorary pallbearers, each carrying a backpack to honor her wish. The collected supplies were donated to local students through Project Connect, a program aimed at providing resources to underprivileged children.

In 2019, a group of millennials purchased an abandoned high school in Homestead, Pennsylvania, for $100,000 and transformed it into a 31-unit rental property.

The renovation, which took about 18 months and cost around $3.3 million, resulted in 27 one-bedroom and four two-bedroom apartments.

The building retains some of its original charm, including the basketball court, and offers modern amenities like a gym with Peloton bikes and shared living spaces.

Leasing for the apartments started in October 2021, and the building achieved 100% occupancy within just six months.

Brazilian photographer Daniel Antoniol created a playful photo series where he appears to steal the moon, using clever angles and digital techniques.

In the images, he’s sometimes seen lifting the moon into a car trunk, cradling it in a wheelbarrow, or holding it like a balloon—each shot blending perspective and imagination.

Antoniol, a civil engineer by day, began this creative project in 2020, often capturing these scenes on his family’s farm.

A group of four couples, best friends for over 30 years, turned their dream into reality by building a tiny town where they could live together in retirement.

Known as the Llano Exit Strategy, this unique community is located near Austin, Texas, by the Llano River.

Designed with the help of architect Matt Garcia, this tiny town offers a sustainable and peaceful getaway just 90 minutes from the city. Each of the four cabins is 350 square feet and cost around $40,000 to build.

These lifelong friends have created more than just a living space—they’ve built a dream retreat where they can enjoy their golden years together.
