Only The Doors could turn a German-language opera into a rock hit. “Alabama Song (Whisky Bar)” started as part of a 1930 opera by Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill, but The Doors reimagined it with eerie keys, a marxophone, and Jim’s vocals - putting their own surreal spin on a cabaret classic.
