"The answer is yes—if your goal is to create a more blended, melted look with a lighter base. A root shadow can help soften the transition and add depth.

However, it’s not always necessary. If you’re just using the base break to soften the natural base in between highlights and want to keep the highlights closer to the root, you can skip the root shadow for a brighter, more lifted look at the root area."
