Feels good to be back in the game again with all my homies on the range and especially with @popeofwelding shooting along side me!

Today was a great refresh time! Sadly the Scar got stowed away after the first stage of the match. All that work for nothing 😡😡😡😡😡😡😡
My Eotech broke when I got to my last 3 targets I looked and was like where’s my dot 🤷‍♀️.. so I switched it out to the Nomad 2 and she performed great as usual. I tried to be cool and change things up but don’t fix what isn’t broken. 😝👏

Also don’t do a standing reload like that. It’s lame.

Got out to practice today with @popeofwelding and zero the SCAR 16 CQC for @texas_kalashnikov_llc_ match this Sunday. First time I’ll be shooting in a while, so it felt good to knock the rust off and run through some fundamentals. I’ve been wanting to try out the dot + magnifier combo for a carbine match — usually I go dot with drops or a scope with a side dot, so this will be a fun change of pace.

Also ran through all my GI mags to make sure everything’s feeding clean. I zeroed at 33 yards for a solid hold at 100. Normally I run a 50/200 zero, but this match only goes out to 32 yards, so I’m more than covered. No need to overthink it.

Before any match, I always:
✅ Confirm zero based on stage distances
✅ Run the exact ammo and mags I’ll use on match day
✅ Train in full match gear — belt, glasses, shoes — to catch any surprises ahead of time

Another key piece a lot of folks skip: up-close holds. I make sure I know exactly where to hold at 5, 10, and 15 yards so I’m not guessing when it counts. Everyone stresses about the far stuff, but honestly, the close shots can trip you up just as fast.

Prepare like you shoot. Shoot like you prepare.

Had the best 4th of July celebrating our first Independence Day on the Gulf of America! Port Aransas brought the sunshine, salt air, and all the bold Texas vibes. I took my Hummer out, soaked in the freedom, and spent the weekend with my baby boy, my husband, one of my best friends, and the kind of people who make life feel full. Good food, loud laughs, and a whole lotta gratitude. God bless America and this wild, beautiful life.

Now that we’re unpacked and settled back in at home, my heart is also heavy for the Camp Mystic community.

This Sourdough Cinnamon Sugar Quick Bread from @lockremhomestead was every bit as good as it looks—crispy cinnamon crust on top, soft swirl of sweetness inside, and that rich tangy base from sourdough discard. Total win.

I don’t always bake, but when I do… it turns into a full-blown kitchen tornado with flour in my hair, cinnamon sugar on every surface, and a toddler trying to steal brown sugar out of the bowl 😅

This recipe was simple and super forgiving (which is saying a lot because I don’t measure anything like I’m supposed to). 10/10 will be making again—might even try it with a maple glaze next time.
