What is the role of the creative, the artist, the athlete?

How do we move beyond performative gestures and use our power, access, and influence to drive real, systemic change?

Grateful to have gathered with an incredible group of people from our Toronto community for an intimate interfaith Iftar — a moment of reflection, connection, and purpose.

Thank you to everyone who joined us: the artists, creatives, community leaders, and members of both federal and municipal government.

In the shadow of the ongoing horrors in Gaza, the tragedies in Sudan, and countless injustices around the world, we are reminded:

Communities of shared oppression have shared futures.

We believe culture can — and must — drive change. And we will continue to do our part to bridge creativity, community, and influence toward something lasting and real.

Thank you our co-host @u_issa @sanya_chauz @shainazafar 🫶🏾

Gratitude to @arxka & @jennochristian for being community leaders and shaping this event, @arxka production 🐐

Thank you to our partners @activecause @acehoteltoronto @zamalekmontreal for empowering our communities.

Indigenous solidarity with Lebanon 🇱🇧🪶❤️

This was originally a commission for @ovo40 in 2022 but after months of her powerful advocacy we decided to mutually gift it to our kin @homayed, former Indigenous studies student, Lebanese activist, and one of the most diligent allies I have ever had the honor to meet.

My heart goes out to the people of Lebanon as they experience senseless, widespread and indiscriminate terror attacks, such that the world had never seen.

The 24k gold flecks are in the notes of le beruit, a song chosen by Noah. The back is Buffalo hide with Buffalo bones beads.

with great power comes great responsibility — so Toronto if you’re lucky enough to have your power back on, consider giving what you can to UNRWA, TCJF, and the GoFundMe to evacuate @sarah.barzak’s family in Gaza 🙏🏾🕊️🍉✊🏾

Goodbye to my hero. My best friend. My mentor.

You will be missed by many.

Thank you for believing in me. Teaching me. Caring for me.

I’ll always love you Les Bateman aka Bates. I’ll always remember you. The studio will never feel the same. I will do all the firmware updates and keep everything healthy and change all the fans and every tube and label every power supply. I’ll update the cameras and emix and all the PCs. And no matter what… I will always test the test equipment.

RIP Les.

I love you.

40.
