Back in the mists of 1988, I scored a film called ‘The Ogre’. Directed by Lamberto Bava, its original title was ‘La Casa dell’Orco’.

‘An American horror writer, haunted by childhood nightmares, moves to an old mansion in Italy with her husband and young son only to discover the nightmares were real.’

There were various attempts to sell this as ‘Demons 3’ at the time, which it most certainly is not or has ever been.

Cut to 2022 and I am approached by a mysterious Italian singer. His name is Reverendo Secret. He is famous for doing well on ‘Italy’s Got Talent’ by performing instantly improvised songs based on four words supplied each week by the IGT judges. Talented he is. And a great singer.

It turns out this man is also obsessed with the music I wrote for a number of Italian horror films in the 1980s. These themes have clearly haunted his youth. Sorry Reverendo, for disturbing your dreams. (Actually, I’m not sorry at all. I’m delighted).

Most of all, he loves my score to ‘The Ogre’. He proposes that I compose a song for him incorporating some of that score.

So, together with my son Jimi, we set about the task. It comes together. We like it. We send it to him. He writes some great lyrics. He sings it. It’s amazing! As if three worlds have beautifully collided - the rock ballad, the film score and the darkness of an Italian Giallo. To top it off, Jimi puts on his rock boots and adds an exhilarating guitar solo.
