Ammonite Fossil Extraction🐚🌈

These beautiful Ammonite fossils are found in southern Alberta, Canada, where they’ve been preserved in shale for over 70 million years. Ammonites were squid-like creatures that lived in coiled shells, and this specimen comes from the Bearpaw Formation, a geological site known for producing some of the most well-preserved Ammonites in the world.

Many of these fossils reveal a vivid layer of Ammolite, an iridescent mineral (Aragonite) that forms on the surface of the original shell. Ammolite is prized for its striking iridescent colors, ranging from red, orange, and yellow to green, blue, and occasionally purple. The colors are completely natural and result from millions of years of pressure and mineralization. Ammolite is found almost exclusively in this region and is recognized as Canada’s official gemstone. Because Ammolite is relatively soft with a Mohs hardness of 3-4, Ammolite is often stabilized with epoxy or laquer to improve its durability.

(Note: the fossil shown in the ground and the prepared specimen are not the same individual—this video illustrates the general process from discovery to preparation.)

There’s something MAGICAL inside!🩵😍

Recently we drove out to the Nevada Desert to dig up some of the beautiful and highly coveted Royston Turquoise! We weren’t sure if we found anything amazing until we got home and polished everything up and we were so surprised!!! Several of the raw chunks that looked like dirt were actually hiding some stunning Turquoise inside, like this piece here. As we polished away the exterior, the blues began to show along with the amazing spider web pattern that this Mine is famous for.

Thanks to @chrisrosegems for showing us around the mine! We cant wait to share more with you soon! 🙌

10 Freshly Cut Mexican Agates!💎✨ @agates_from_mexico

On our visit to the Laguna and Coyamito Mines, Andres, the Mine owner, brought out some top quality Agates and Pseudomorphs to cut open from collecting over the years. It's so exciting to see the surprise that they hold inside for the first time, each one different from the next and completely unique! Which one is your favorite?🎆

It may be small but...😍

A fun find from our digging adventures at the Laguna Mine in Mexico with @agates_from_mexico! Sometimes the smallest Agates are the most impressive!🔥

Which Country has the best Amethyst?😍💜

Amethyst is a member of the Quartz family, made purple by trace amounts of natural iron inclusions. It’s found all over the world in a variety of shapes and sizes—from big, chunky points to deep purple clusters to gemmy, elongated crystals. Amethyst is truly beautiful in every form! This video showcases many stunning examples from around the world, though there are still countless other breathtaking Amethyst localities yet to explore.💎

We brought a beautiful double terminated Champagne Topaz crystal and a naturally etched Heliodor crystal with us on our journey to the mountains in Japan with a stunning view of Mt. Yotei in the background. The crystals are both unpolished, in their natural form and embody the beauty of nature.✨Both are available.🙏💎✨

Making Gallium Crystals!✨

Gallium is absolutely incredible as it turns from solid to liquid to crystal form so easily. You can literally see the geometric crystals form in front of your eyes! This experiment really shows the process of crystal formation and how this material organizes itself into a precise geometry. Although these crystals form in a short amount of time and are temporary, crystals found in nature form over a long period of time and are more permanent which makes us appreciate them even more!💎❤️

The Art of Crystal Geometry💎📐

We are left speechless once again by the artistry of mother nature. There are so many different natural geometries, structures and colors that have been created by chance on earth. Crystals defy the laws of entropy, organizing atoms into intricate patterns and shapes that inspire human creation.

These incredible crystals are on display at @granada.gallery this weekend for the Tucson Gem Show featuring minerals that inspire architecture and design from the Dr. Erika Pohl collection.

Which of these natural geometries speaks to you the most? 💠
