I shared an unforgettable evening with Dariush Mehrjui’s son and daughter, Safa and Maryam, filled with heartfelt memories.

Dariush and I became friends when he was a student at UCLA, long before his children were born. Safa’s infectious laugh and Maryam’s expressive eyes brought back lovely memories of Dariush at their age.

Dariush Mehrjui, the visionary director behind masterpieces like The Cow, left an enduring legacy in cinema. Tragically, he and his wife were brutally murdered nearly two years ago in Iran, their killers still at large.

My deepest gratitude to Alireza Ardekani, the @farhangfoundation, and @ucla for making this profoundly meaningful evening at the Hammer Museum possible. 🙏🏼❤️

‎شبی فراموش‌نشدنی‌ با فرزندان ارشد داریوش مهرجویی، صفا و مریم، شبی پر از خاطرات صمیمانه.

‎من و داریوش زمانی که او دانشجوی دانشگاه UCLA بود، مدت‌ها قبل از تولد فرزندانش، با هم دوست شدیم. خنده‌های مسری صفا و چشمان پراحساس مریم، خاطرات دوست‌داشتنی داریوش را در سن آنها زنده کرد.

‎داریوش مهرجویی، کارگردان آینده‌نگر شاهکارهایی مانند «گاو»، میراثی ماندگار در سینما از خود به جا گذاشت. متأسفانه، او و همسرش تقریباً دو سال پیش در ایران به طرز وحشیانه‌ای به قتل رسیدند و قاتلان آنها هنوز آزاد هستند.

‎از علیرضا اردکانی، بنیاد فرهنگ و UCLA عمیقاً سپاسگزارم که این شب عمیقاً پرمعنا را ممکن ساختند. 🙏🏼❤️

At the premiere of Still Smiling at the Dances with Films festival in LA, I was proud to be part of a powerful story addressing domestic violence, a global issue that transcends class, race, and nation. The fight against it begins with awareness, education, and open dialogue. Collaborating with the talented Shiva Negar, director Jared Cohn, and our incredible cast and crew was an honor. This film was truly a labor of love, driven by a commitment to sharing this vital message. 🙏🏼❤️

در افتتاحیه فیلم همچنان لبخند می‌زنم در جشنواره رقص با فیلم‌ها در لس‌آنجلس، مفتخر بودم که بخشی از داستانی تأثیرگذار باشم که به موضوع خشونت خانگی می‌پردازد؛ مشکلی جهانی که فراتر از طبقه، نژاد و ملت است. مبارزه با آن با آگاهی، آموزش و گفت‌وگوی باز آغاز می‌شود. همکاری با شیوا نگار، جرد کوهن کارگردان، و گروه بازیگران و همه دست اندرکاران فیلم مایه افتخار من است. این فیلم حقیقتاً کاری از از سر عشق بود که با تعهد به انتقال این پیام حیاتی ساخته شد.

Forty-six years of continuous human rights violations, suppression, psychological and physical torture, and the execution of this nation’s youth under false pretenses have stained its legacy with blood.
