Dear readers, I’m thrilled to introduce you to ROOM 706 by @ellie_levenson, a new novel with a setup that had me on the edge of my seat! Trapped in a London hotel room with her lover, a woman is forced to confront her choices and reconsider her marriage.

Kate loves her life. Of course she does. Her children. Her husband. Even when that means running underappreciated errands, keeping everyone fed and clothed, doing the laundry. What’s keeping her sane? The hours she sneaks away to spend with a man who is not her husband.

Her secret is safe until she and her lover are suddenly forced into lockdown in their London hotel room. She’s trapped with her choices, thinking about her family at home, and what she’ll tell them if she survives.

Something I admire most about this novel is the way it probes moral gray areas. It’s provocative, but never tawdry, and takes an unflinching look at how the many hats women are expected to wear—as mothers, as wives, as professionals, as individuals—converge and sometimes conflict. And it does so in the context of one single room in which the stakes couldn’t be higher.

It begs the question: What happens when the life you’ve built no longer fits the woman you’ve become?
