My conversation today explores an adult content creator’s struggles, successful and set-backs with vaginismus.

Fern @fern_mlnp makes adult content for a platform called MakeLoveNotPorn. Run by @cindygallop this is a platform that offers real-life sex videos rather than the scripted performances of traditional adult entertainment content.
I highly recommend this platform as an alternative to porn.

When I was first introduced to Fern, I was surprised to learn that she had vaginismus. It is such a common stereotype that people in the adult film industry must have perfectly receptive bodies, free from any sexual difficulties. We forget that they are also real people, with real bodies and often very real struggles.

What fascinated me even more was that Fern’s vaginismus was central to her presence on camera, this was her focus on camera.

Today’s conversation explores the exercises, techniques and emotional work she uses for her healing, how she deals with set-backs, what she has managed to overcome and what still lies ahead.

Sometimes it can be such simple things and yet no one ever teaches us or talks about it.

The amount of time that society has spent spreading fear, taboo and misinformation, imagine if we had used the same time to educate instead….

The research for this chapter started because of all the young queer men who have felt if they don’t agree to an@l s#x, that they will lose out on a date and maybe even a relationship with a partner!

And without any knowledge, emotional or physical, this then becomes a vicious cycle of injuries and not giving yourself the time or space to heal.

It’s a similar story for young women in heterosexual relationships!

The research has taken painfully long because I wanted to get every detail of the process and the sensations possible to make this as useful as possible for people who need the help. But I know it’ll be worth it in the end. ❤️

Some guidance, reliable information and a judgment-free zone to ask questions.
That’s all we need for safe sex and a healthy understanding of our bodies and our pleasure.
❤️❤️
Boundary include good verbal communication, safe words, ongoing consent and pre-decided no-go areas

There are men who rape and abuse.
There are men actively support them.
There are those who stay quiet and watch.
Each one is equally responsible

We’re always saying how if men had menopause, we would have governments competing to sponsor the research.
And yes, they probably would. But the real question is, why has no one taken our menopause seriously?

A huge part of it is our own silence. Women have been conditioned to believe that ‘suffering silently’ is a ‘form of strength’ and instead of questioning the stupidity of that idea, we have not just jumped onto that bandwagon, we’ve turned it into a competition - we’re all trying to out-sacrifice each other!
Talking about how horrid hot flashes, insomnia, mood swings, thinning bones etc were does not make you weak!
STOP being the silent, suffering types because silence DOES NOT build institutions, noise does.

We need to take some responsibility for how much space we occupy in public discourse. If we want the medical system to pay attention, if you want research, remedies, and real support, you have to show them that there is a need for it.

If you want to be heard, you have to be speaking. And not just with doctors - with your daughters, partners, friends, everyone.
Menopause needs a vocabulary.

We often hear that to reach moksha, one must transcend desire. But what if desire was never meant to be left behind at all?

In this conversation, Seema Anand (@seemaanandstorytelling) speaks about the four purusharthas: dharma, artha, kama and moksha. She reminds us that kama is not a distraction from the spiritual path. It is part of it.

The Kamasutra was not written in secrecy or shame. It was composed by a sage, begins with an invocation to the gods, and is dedicated to the goddess Saraswati. It treats pleasure with seriousness and respect, not as something sinful but as something sacred.

In a world where spirituality is often linked to denial, Seema offers something gentler. Moksha does not ask us to reject desire. It asks us to understand it and move through it with awareness.

Feel what brings you joy. That may be the most honest step toward yourself.

And no, you don’t have to swallow either!!

There are no written rules on “how to” have pleasure, except that it should be safe, consensual and mutually pleasurable.
And I don’t think gagging or throwing up ends in a fabulous feeling for either partner.
Experiment, explore and make your own pleasure rituals.

We need more education, not fear or shame!!! 🚨

This was one little excerpt (my entire conversation will be in my book) and I hope you find it as useful as I did!

I was actually horrified at how much I didn’t know, even after so many years of working on the subject 🧠

For instance many of us rely on emergency contraception like the morning-after pill without ever really understanding how it actually works…or when it might not 💊

We assume one pill fits all. But its effectiveness can be impacted by things like timing, weight, and even your metabolism. That is not something most people find out until after the fact!

Contraception is not a “one-size-fits-all” solution. Different methods work differently depending on your lifestyle, your hormone profile, your BMI etc.

Where possible, consult a trained health provider. Not just after an emergency but before it even happens. Because something that has such a big impact on your life deserves more than just guesswork! 📖
