Yes, “I’m the Derm from instagram”… now available at @sephora!!!

I can’t f*king believe I just wrote that. For those of you new, and for those who are OG nerds, the road to today hasn’t been easy. And no this isn’t meant to be a sob story, but one that empowers you to believe in your dreams.

When I was fired back in 2017, while I was pregnant, I hit rock bottom. Having nothing to lose, I turned to instagram to help others because: why not? All boats rise with the tide, right?

And although that may seem mainstream today in 2024, “a Derm on social,” trust me when I say: I was going AGAINST the norm back then. I would receive accidental DMs from colleagues who were intending to message someone else saying “who does this person think she is?” Or even my own family members (hi mom 👋🇱🇧) “ya mama, you can’t be online in your pajama from bed? Shou hayda??? So unprofessional”

But I kept going and I turned down the noise. Because I believed then as I do now in my mission and what I was trying to achieve: Helping to empower others to empower themselves, starting with their skin. There was no ulterior motive. I had no idea what I was doing. The only thing I knew for certain was that I made a promise to show up, as myself, on my terms, however I felt I wanted, never being owned by anyone with ALWAYS the intention of helping you.

Some of you, a lot of you, don’t even know I have a skincare brand. To me, THAT is the definition of success 💜

Thank you for being a part of our PillowtalkDerm family, and buckle up nerds…because we’re just getting started 🚀🙏

“We all are Citizens of the World. What’s good for you must be good for all.”
“A plate of food is a plate of hope.”
“Food is peace.”
– José Andrés

These words stay with me. Especially now.

That’s why I started this fundraiser with World Central Kitchen. Because food isn’t just survival—it’s dignity.
It’s care.
It’s a call for peace 🙏🕊️

Do you have a pimple that lasts for months? Skin cancers can often be confused for pimples 👀

More people are diagnosed with skin cancer than all other cancers combined!

This is why it’s so important to get a skin check. Early detection and treatment is key to preventing the spread of basal cell carcinoma.

The more you know 🌈

Melasma is stubborn AF—so let’s cut through the noise.
As a dermatologist, I’m breaking down the best and worst treatments—from what’s worth trying at home to what to ask for in-office.

Because the truth is, if you’re not on top of it, discoloration can age you faster than wrinkles.

As healthcare providers, our first duty is to care for people, not belittle or dismiss them.

Sadly, empathy isn’t always second nature in medicine. But it should be.

No patient should ever leave an appointment feeling worse, unheard, unsupported, or disrespected. The lack of compassion I experienced today was not only unprofessional, it was unacceptable.

Patients deserve better. You deserve to be listened to, respected, and treated with humanity.

You have options, as a patient and IN LIFE.
You have the right to ask questions.
You have the right to say no.
You have the power to advocate for yourself.
ALWAYS.

Don’t let anyone make you feel small for speaking up, especially not in a place that’s supposed to heal you or be your safe space. 💜

FYI- the physician refused to offer comforting measures that were readily available because … honestly Im not sure why, either they were busy, couldn’t be bothered or didn’t want to have to cover the cost of the nitrous. Whatever their reason was, they didn’t do something as simple as nitrous and as a patient I was within my rights to ask.

Feel like you’re aging overnight? You’re not alone 💆‍♀️

As a cosmetic Derm, I’ve treated thousands of faces and have noticed 4 key peaks of aging—and what actually helps at each one.

Peak 1: Early 30s
Peak 2: Late 30s
Peak 3: Early - Mid 40s
Peak 4: Late 60s

From jowls in your 30s to a different human in your 40s, here’s what to do at-home and in-office before things catch you off guard 💉✨ (and contrary to what social is making you believe: you do not need a face lift in your 30s)

Aging is a privilege—if you’re not aging, you’re dead. So HOW you age is up to you…. Let’s do it with intention ❤️

In this video, I’m focusing on the e face and even touch on neck- Let me know if you want a dedicated neck video!

Red, itchy, bumpy skin out of nowhere? It might be an allergic skin reaction

But if your redness is persistent—with bumps, flushing, and sensitivity—it could be rosacea, not a one-time allergy.

Here’s how to calm redness (when used correctly):
✅ Azelaic Acid – Calms inflammation + fades discoloration
✅ Centella Asiatica – Soothes and strengthens the skin barrier
✅ Sulfur – Targets redness and acne-like bumps
✅ Zinc – Reduces irritation and supports barrier repair

Just did a deep dive on Azelaic Acid mistakes—watch it now on YouTube so you can use it without making things worse!

Sunscreen Reapplication Tips That Actually Work ☀️
Let’s be real—most people aren’t reapplying sunscreen as often as they should. Controversial? Maybe. But here’s the truth: something is better than nothing when it comes to sun protection.

Here are 3 dermatologist-approved ways to make sunscreen reapplication easy (yes, even over makeup):

1️⃣ Sunscreen Mist – great for touch-ups and your scalp (@onesize)
2️⃣ Sunscreen Powder – perfect for oily skin and a matte finish (@supergoop)
3️⃣ Your Main SPF + a Beauty Blender – dab it over makeup without messing it up (I’m using Major Fade Disco Block SPF 50 but you can use any sunscreen that works for you)

All are available at Sephora so you can protect your skin on the go in the city. If you’re at the beach, reapply the damn sunscreen every 2 hours.

This isn’t just sensitive skin… it’s called dermatographism aka skin writing: when your skin overreacts with minor friction by releasing histamine and sometimes making you uncontrollably itchy.

(And yes, I’ve had to take my pants off in public (sadly) multiple times 😂)
