Every year, I do this thing that makes me sweat a little (okay, a lot): I enter a few competitions. Not to beat out other photographers (the talent is so STEEP), but to stay in conversation with my own work. To look at where I’ve been, and more importantly, where I’m going. I’ve learned that competing isn’t about a score. It’s about still being hungry. Still pushing. Still asking myself what I want to say with this camera in my hand. Hamilton changed everything. Not just for audiences, not just for Broadway, but for me, too. This show marked a turning point in my career. It was one of the first times I saw how photography could intersect so deeply with performance, culture, and history. Capturing portraits of the Hamilton cast over the years, artists who were redefining what Broadway could look and feel like, opened the door to a whole new world of storytelling for me. Now, with the 10-year anniversary in full swing (and one of the original leads returning this fall), I can’t help but feel a wave of gratitude looking back at these portraits. NO WEDDING PARTY? NO PROBLEM. Just best friends, Washington Square Park, and the chillest vibes to ease into the weekend. On wedding day, Jana got ready at The Bowery with just her mom and a friend (truly the calmest energy I’ve ever walked into before a ceremony). She shared a quiet, emotional first look with her dad, then stepped out onto the balcony to see her groom. The ceremony was held at the @museumateldridgestreet, then we headed back to the Bowery for cocktails, dinner, and one of the BEST dance parties I’ve ever documented.
