Imagine my first ever movie role? Imagine all of the actresses that I won’t name that came in that it done 1020 movies, established household names and then in come Taraji.? The studio had a very hard position. They were worried about me starring in baby boy because I was number one on the call sheet, but they became even more worried about Taraji because at the time the other women that came in the audition had a much bigger household name….

I told John Singleton and the studio firmly I believe this is my Yvevette !!!!!

I know the other actresses are established, even more established than me because other than random sitcoms and I was doing and learning from I had never starred in a movie at the time I was literally JUST a singer…

But when she came in to audition my gut and my heart told me and John Singleton, that Taraji she was undeniable….

I tell people all the time the real magic of Hollywood is what happened in rooms that most of us are not in that’s where they make all the real decisions and I have no idea how or why they even allow me to be a part of that conversation, they asked me again and again and again, and I kept telling them “Taraji is my Yvevette “

Today I woke up with John Singleton heavy on my mind. He was my best friend a mentor my brother and I had imagined many years ago that I would be what Denzel is the Spike Lee.., what now Michael B Jordan has to Ryan Coogler, what Leonardo is the Martin Scorsese…. Regardless of what you may feel about our little movies I literally imagined that I would’ve made a lot of movies with John Singleton….

I’m so proud of you, Taraji. You have no idea Oscar nominated and still out here killing it in every role. I will always be your brother have your back and be ready to shoot staff and kill over you….. stay encouraged and in every moment you can continue to show up for other people in their dreams!!! This role was never given to you it was EARNED!!!
