Tomorrow morning I am launching something I’ve been working on for over 2 years now. It’s something that I deeply care about and I think it’s deeply rooted in my childhood experience. The little boy in this photo was living in a home with 2 parents struggling with their mental health. My Dad was a heroin addict in and out of rehab and relapses while my Mum was battling with extreme OCD with cleaning, anxiety, panic attacks and an eating disorder. Home life was unstable, unpredictable, chaotic and stressful for me and my brother Nikki.

These were all things I didn’t really understand at the time but I do remember a feeling inside of being scared to talk to anyone about it because I feared I would be taken away from them if people knew how we were living.

Thank God I found my therapy in those early years through movement and exercise at primary school. I’ve always said PE and exercise saved my life and took me down a totally different path to what it could have been. I realised at about 4 years old that when I exercised or played sport I could physically remove stress and anxiety from my body. I could forget about the madness from the night before or the worry of everything changing in a moment and so exercise became my best friend that no one could take away from me.

I know many children today are not moving enough, or sedentary and living with parents who may struggle with their own mental health too. This is the reason I’m so focussed on helping young people move their bodies and feel the same way I do about exercise. If I can teach a child to connect the dots with exercise and their mind I believe it can change their life forever.

What I’ve been working on is going to help more kids, move more, more often and I’m so excited to share it with you. Check back on here tomorrow morning at 7am to see what it is. Do you have any ideas what it might be? 😀

Wow! I cannot believe it’s been 5 years 🥺

On March 23rd 2020, I cleared out my living room and went live on YouTube for the first day of PE With Joe.

What started as a way to keep kids (and grown-ups!) active at home during lockdown, turned into something so much bigger than I ever could have imagined - with millions of us coming together every morning to laugh, stay positive and get fitter.

It will always be my proudest achievement and I just want to say a massive THANK YOU to everyone who joined in - whether you did one workout or every single one. You inspired me every day and although it was a difficult time, I have so many amazing memories from our time together 💙

“Hi Joe! I know you probably won’t see this but tomorrow is my one year anniversary of downloading your app and following your programme. A year ago today I was diagnosed with pre-diabetes and high cholesterol. The blood test showed I was dangerously close to being diabetic, which would be much harder to reverse and would greatly impact my life in a negative way. I was the heaviest I’d ever been, I had two young children (aged 9 months and 2.5 years) and had plopped myself at the bottom of the pile of priorities. I ate copious amounts of junk food to deal with the emotional load and only exercised during my daily pram walk because I was so tired and burnt out. The health scare shook me and I took immediate action, using your app to make me accountable and give me a proper programme to follow as I felt so lost and scared. I was very dedicated and stuck rigorously to the plan. I quit all refined sugar and fatty foods, and decreased my portion sizes.

After just 6 months, I’d lost 2.5 stone and had completely reversed the pre-diabetes diagnosis. Now one year on, my stats get better and better; I’m the strongest, fittest, happiest and most confident I’ve ever been in myself. I workout 5 days a week and train hard because I love it - it’s not been easy as a busy working mum of two young children, but it’s a non-negotiable to take care of myself. Thank you for giving me the gift of this transformation. Little did I know, that terrifying diagnosis a year ago would change my life for the better, and you would be the vehicle to get me to this place. I’ve recommended you so much that 4 other close friends and family members have joined your app since! Thanks again, I literally couldn’t have done it without you! 💪🏽”
