Today we are opening the Petty archives to bring you ‘Long After Dark (Deluxe Edition)’, including 45 minutes of newly discovered music and more never-before-seen footage from the 1982-1983 era. Listen/purchase at the link in bio.

The deluxe album includes unreleased tracks, lost in the debate over the album’s original direction, including the @everlybrothersofficial-inspired “Keeping Me Alive” – a French TV version is out today accompanied by a performance video from the Record Plant in 1982.

Other notable archival discoveries are a haunting version of “Never Be You”, “Don’t Make Me Walk the Line,” “One On One,” and an up-tempo version of “Ways To Be Wicked.”

Tom Petty’s @GibsonGuitar J-200, known for its big-bodied tone and ornate detailing, was one of his go-to acoustics used for stripped-down performances in the 1980s and beyond. It was even used in @TravelingWilburys recordings, seen in slide 3 played by @RoyOrbison.

Later, this same guitar model became the iconic Gibson Wildflowers SJ-200 (as seen in slide 5).

Check out Tom’s J-200 guitar and more Long After Dark-era artifacts from the Petty Archives now on display at the @rockhall.

“I think he’s a very talented guy. And I really appreciate him being my friend in many ways, because it’s hard to find people like Howie in the world who are so pure of spirit.” - Tom Petty

Thinking of Howie on his birthday today.

New Tom Petty artifacts are now on display at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame!

On display now is @tompettyofficial’s beloved J-200 guitar, used throughout his career as a home, studio, and stage guitar. It can be seen in the “Yer So Bad” music video, as well as in the Traveling Wilbury’s video for “Handle With Care” played by @officialroyorbison. Tom’s original J-200 from the ‘Long After Dark’ era and seen in the ‘Heartbreakers Beach Party’ documentary, which featured ivory mustache inlays, was soon replaced by this one, with a slightly smaller neck from a rare line of guitars made by Nick Lucas. Come by the Rock Hall to check out this artifact and more.

Square one, my slate is clear
Rest your head on me, my dear
It took a world of trouble, took a world of tears
It took a long time to get back here

This weekend marks the 40th anniversary of #LiveAid, the 1985 benefit concert organized by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure to raise funds for famine relief in Ethiopia.

@tompettyofficial added “American Girl” to their set at the last minute, when they realized that it would be the first song broadcast from Philadelphia after the finale of the show in London. Beyond Philadelphia and London, other concerts inspired by Live Aid were held on this day in the Soviet Union, Canada, Japan, Yugoslavia, Austria, Australia, and West Germany.
