I’m from a small farm town in rural Georgia called Carlton. Growing up I resented being in such a small town with little opportunities for a creative kid like myself. With only 200 people, one stop sign and a Baptist church, There wasn’t a clear path of how to follow my dreams while staying there. So I chose to leave. In my years away, with only brief visits home for holidays and birthdays, I’ve come to realize how special a town like Carlton is. It hasn’t changed in 100 years and I hope it never will. It’s a place of immense love and happiness for me now, so I wanted to write a love song about my town and it turned into me writing a song about falling in love with someone who reminded me of all the beauty of where I’m from.
