Our planet is astounding. I’ve visited some incredibly beautiful places this year, and learned so much from the people who care for them. As we look forward to a new year together, let us remember that we are part of nature; that earth’s survival cannot be separated from the health of society; and that to love humanity is to love our planet. I can’t wait to continue the journey.

On this longest day for us in the Northern Hemisphere, I’m remembering one morning a few years ago that I spent with the Wabanaki community. They live on the eastern edge of the continent, and consider it their responsibility to welcome the sun for the rest of us.
