Photographer @danielkordan captures the magic of firefly season in Japan — it honestly feels like stepping into a fairytale 🌿✨ These photos were taken on Kyushu, one of the best places to see them.

Fireflies are super sensitive to the environment, so spotting them isn’t always easy. Some years, they only appear for a couple of nights between May and July. Local photographers usually know the best times and places, so if you’re hoping to catch them, try connecting with someone in the area.

Ever seen a mountain that looks like a layered cake? 🎂🏔️

@danielkordan takes us to the stunning Bokty Mountain in West Kazakhstan! 🏞️ Rising 165 meters above the vast plains, this natural wonder is a masterpiece of vibrant layers, giving it the appearance of a giant cake 🍰. The mountain’s striking colors are at their most magical during sunrise and sunset, when they glow with fiery light, casting an ethereal glow over the landscape 🔥.

💡Did you know this spot was once under an ancient ocean? Keep an eye out for fossilized shark teeth beneath your feet! 🦈

@travelwith_kristin captures the breathtaking beauty of cloud iridescence over Norway! 🇳🇴🌈☁️ This rare phenomenon occurs when sunlight diffracts through tiny, uniform water droplets or ice crystals in thin clouds like altostratus or cirrocumulus. The result? A kaleidoscope of pastel hues shimmering across the sky. 🤩

Ever witnessed this natural wonder in person? 🌍✨

@majedphotos captures a moment that barely feels real, thousands of birds in synchrony over the wild skies of Hærnøya, Northern Norway 🕊️🌌

Set in one of the country’s most remote nature reserves, this mass migration is nature’s choreography at its most breathtaking, a fleeting and magical display that few ever get to see. ✨🇳🇴

Have you ever witnessed something like this in the wild?

@madeira_adventure leads us to one of Madeira’s most iconic hikes, the 25 Fountains Bridge 🌿💧

Located in the Laurisilva Forest, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this spot sits along the Levada das 25 Fontes trail, a 4.5 km walk through lush jungle, basalt cliffs, and over 25 natural springs cascading into emerald pools. 🥾

🗺️ Trail info: Moderate difficulty, ~3 hours round trip
📍 Start point: Rabaçal
🌦️ Best time to go: Early morning or late afternoon to avoid crowds
🎒 Pro tip: Bring good shoes, a light jacket (it gets misty), and a camera for the dreamiest moss-covered bridges

Would you hike here next time you’re in Madeira? 🇵🇹✨

@shfxaan captured the ocean’s cutest secret. 🐡✨ Just below the surface in Rasdhoo Atoll, Maldives, a tiny squad of baby puffers huddles like floating polka dots, adorable, shy, and perfectly in sync!

Keep your eyes peeled when snorkeling in the atolls… magic moments like this are hiding in plain sight. 🇲🇻💙 What’s you’re favorite underwater encounter?

@gundicam shows us one of the Faroe Islands’ most surreal natural illusions, Sørvágsvatn, aka the “hanging lake” 🌊🇫🇴

Sitting on Vágar Island, this cliffside lake appears to hover above the ocean, thanks to a perfect combo of elevation and perspective. In reality, it’s about 30-40 meters above sea level, but from the right viewpoint, it looks like it’s pouring straight into the Atlantic.

🗺️ How to see it: Take the easy 1-hour hike from Miðvágur. The best view is near the end of the trail. Aim for late afternoon for the best light and fewest crowds.

📸 Tip: Stand back from the cliff edge to fully capture the illusion.

A must for photographers and hikers! Are you adding it to your Faroes itinerary? 🇫🇴 💚

@_ibatullin_ildar_ just gave us a lunar glow-up 🌕✨ Captured with a Canon 6D and Newtonian telescope, this rare shot of the Moon at 35% phase reveals real chemical shades, rusty reds from iron oxide, cool blues from titanium.

Why it matters? Most moon photos flatten its surface into grayscale. But this image, thanks to light dispersion and diffraction, gives us insight into the Moon’s volcanic past and helps scientists better map its mineral composition from Earth.

Not just a pretty picture, it’s moon science in HD. 🛰️🔬
