👋 I play drums, write music and help drummers to get to the next level! #bennygreb

I hesitated to post this at first… because the only way to justify me jamming on this track is to give credit where it’s due.

2 Drink Minimum by Wayne Krantz has been — and still is — one of the most important albums in my life.
Hard to believe it’s been 30 years since its release.
Zach Danziger’s playing on it absolutely blew my mind.

The complexity, the beauty, the interplay… it was all breathtaking to me — and it still is.
To release a live album, unmixed and raw, straight to the world like Wayne did back then… that was bold. Visionary. Brave.

Zach doesn’t get nearly enough credit for the influence he’s had — and continues to have — on drummers around the globe.
He’s the definition of an artistic innovator: fearless, hard-working, and relentlessly creative.
And if that wasn’t enough — he’s also one of the kindest humans in this business.

So hats off to you, Zach.
Much love.
And I wish you all a great day.

Really enjoying the process of dialing in my sound in the studio these days. ….put some condenser mics on my toms 🤔 … let’s see …
This is just a little soundcheck. … hey ..Sound is such a crucial part of what we do as musicians.
That might sound obvious—or even silly—but think about it:
How often do we focus on everything but the sound?
The technique. The gear. How we feel while playing.
Whether we’re playing the “right” thing.

Sometimes we forget to truly listen.
It’s wild when you think about it.

I love making sound itself the priority.
Maybe you can do the same today.

Whatever you’re up to—have a great one.

I like the sound of brush playing in the morning. I wish you all a great day. @remopercussion @vicfirth @sonordrumco

although there is some melodic stuff going on here… this clip reminds me that
I’ve always been fascinated—not just by double bass grooves—but by the idea of using the bass drum as an equal voice in fills.💪
Not just as a pulse running underneath, but as a way to continue a phrase that started on the toms and flows seamlessly into the feet.
It’s still one of my favorite effects to this day, and something that keeps inspiring me.
Double bass grooves are great, but they tend to live in specific genres. This other approach opens up a whole new world for fills and solos.
Hope it sparks some inspiration for you too.
Have a great day! @meinlcymbals @sonordrumco @remopercussion @vicfirth

Here’s another late-night clip from my noodling sessions. I find it so important to make time for unstructured flow practice — or simply put, just playing.

For me, it’s a mix of improvising around the kit and focusing on elements like flow and dynamics. And if you’ll forgive the hippie-ish expression, it’s about searching for beauty in the sounds and ideas that emerge.

Because in the end, isn’t it all about adding a little more beauty to this world?

I hope you find some beauty today.

Just some late-night jamming in my studio. It feels good to have a moment for myself between traveling and family time — to let ideas flow in a way that’s a bit structured, yet still improvisational. Wishing you a great day! @meinlcymbals @sonordrumco @vicfirth @remopercussion

while i’m at the very beginning—those earliest stages—of writing some new material again…
What really helps me in this phase is adding some “real” playing to all the MIDI-based stuff I’m putting together.
It’s a great way to avoid getting lost in that overly quantized stiffness and to reconnect with a natural feel and flow.
And for that, no drum set is needed—whatever a hotel room has to offer will do just fine.

Wishing you lots of creativity, self-trust, and a beautiful day ahead. @vicfirth @fortiswatches @shapingnewtomorrow @uaudio

While I constantly preach accuracy and evenness in timing and subdivision, there’s a certain magic in the irregularity — or should I say, the very consistent sloppiness — of certain beats and genres.
To ignore that would mean missing out on the full palette of what groove, timing, and music have to offer.

I find this a constant, but worthwhile challenge: to really zoom in and focus… and then, like a painter stepping back from their work, to see how everything fits together — finding balance and proportion.

The full potential lies not in asking what’s better — A or B… but in embracing the responsibility to deeply obsess over one side, and then consciously step back and give the same attention to what may seem like its opposite.

I believe this makes us not only more well-rounded artists — but more well-rounded humans.

Sometimes I like to warm up—or even practice—with brushes instead of sticks.
Why? Because it reveals so much.
You start to hear things you don’t normally notice:
The angle of your motion, the sound of strokes that press vs. rebound, subtle shifts in approach.
Getting a smooth, fluffy brush sound isn’t just useful on its own—it’s a great way to expose (and improve) your technique.
Plus, it’s a beautiful change of pace. New sound = new inspiration.
Wishing you a great day
