Whenever I’m asked to name my comedy influences, John Cleese is always high on the list. As a teenager, I dissected Monty Python and Fawlty Towers scripts to see how they worked. I met John Cleese for the first time backstage at the wonderful ‘Fawlty Towers: The Play’ and was finally able to thank him for inspiring a fellow tall guy from the West Country (he was born in Weston-super-Mare) to pursue a career in comedy.
