Let’s debunk some of the biggest beginner weightlifting myths; with the science to back it up. 🧬 

MYTH #1: You need to be fit before you start lifting weights.
TRUTH: Strength training is how you build cardiovascular and muscular fitness. Even beginners show rapid improvements in strength, metabolism, and insulin sensitivity when starting a new lifting program.

MYTH #2: Light weights + high reps = toned muscles.
TRUTH: “Toning” is the result of increased lean muscle mass and reduced fat. Studies show that progressive overload (gradually increasing weight over time) leads to better strength gains and hypertrophy, even for beginners.

MYTH #3: Lifting will make you bulky.
TRUTH: For most people, especially beginners, lifting weights builds lean muscle and burns fat. “Bulk” requires a sustained caloric surplus, years of training, and serious commitment toward a weightlifting goal.

Stretching keeps your body primed to move well, recover faster, and push for new PRs. Here are 6 unique stretches Fitbod recommends every lifter should be including in their workouts.

Choose 3-4 stretches per workout: 
🔷 Fan Stretch: Targets hamstrings and hip adductors
🔷 Couch Stretch: Deep quad + hip flexor release = better squat depth
🔷 Standing Hip Flexor Stretch: Loosens tight hips from squats and sitting
🔷 Supine Back Stretch: Realigns and decompresses your spine post-training
🔷 Lower Back Stretch: Eases tension in the lumbar spine after heavy pulls
🔷 Lunge to Hamstring Stretch: Improves hip mobility and hamstring flexibility

 🤔 How many stretches per workout?
- Stick to 3-4 targeted stretches based on your workout (e.g., focus on hips and hamstrings for lower body days, spine and shoulders for upper body).

⏰  How long should you hold each stretch? 
- Aim for 30–60 seconds per side (or per stretch). If you’re tight in a specific area, hold for up to 90 seconds and breathe through it.
